  • Condition: GREAT READY TO USE ESTATE CONDITION FOR ITS AGE. There is a very slight indentation that can hardly be seen on the back of the teapot. Slight polishing marks can be found on the creamer and sugar bowl. Due to its age, the designs have started to fade on the pieces. There are no repairs. The insides are clean with no rust or pitting. Any dark spots are from background glare. A lovely antique Aesthetic Period service not often found that will add elegance to those special dinners and holiday settings.

    Description

    We are offering for your consideration a striking Redfield & Rice, silver plated, 4-piece service. The firm was located in New York, New York on Maiden Lane. The company closed in 1873, due to bankruptcy shortly after changing their name to Redfield & Rice Manufacturing Co. According to the hallmark, the tea service can be dated from the 1860’s to 1870. There is a notation that a, “Patent had been applied for” for the pattern design, “1677”
    The pieces are designed in patterns from the Aesthetic Period which ran from the mid 1800’s to the turn of the century. The pieces are marked, “Triple Plate” which was not used after 1899. The service measures the following:
    **Hinged Teapot measures 9.50 inches high and 10 inches wide from handle to spout.
    **Uncovered Sugar Bowl measures 5 inches high and 7 inches wide between the two handles.
    ** Creamer measures 5 inches at the highest point on the handle and 6 inches wide between the handle and spout.
    ** Covered Hot Milk Pot measures 6.50 inches high and 6 inches wide from handle to spout.
    The pieces are enhanced with a rendering of Palm Fronds and flowers on the front and back of the pot and around the upper rim. The spout, handle and four legs have medallions with the manned faces of a Lion inserted in them. Blank medallions can be found on 3 of the pieces.
