    Description

Shahada and caliph (al-Nasir) / Inscription: al-sultan al-mu'azam shams al-dunya wal din abu'l muzzafar iltutmish al-sultan nasir al-muminin. 25mm, 10.88 grams. Uncertain mint in Sind, undated type. Rare. Rajgor 835, "The Coins of the Indian Sultanates" D38. SKU T800-42454
This issue was minted in the name of the Abbassid Caliph al-Nasir. The date on these coins has been tentatively read "Rabi' 625", which would make this issue posthumous, since Caliph al-Nasir died in 622 AH. The mint assignment is tentative and follows the Goron/Goenka assignment - the mint on these coins has not been read with any certainty. The note in "the Coins of the Indian Sultanates" reads: No mint has been read on this type; Stylistically the style of script has some similarities to that on the billon coins of Budaun. The dates are not clearly writted, but may be Rabi' II 625 AH. This would mean a posthumous siting of the Caliph, who died in AH 622.
